High Times cannabis cup was founded in Amsterdam in November 1988 by Steven Hager editor of High Times magazine. Prior to that 

High Times hosted the High Times Harvest Festival in Amsterdam. With the liberal laws and new cannabis strains available, High Times wanted to showcase these events in their magazine. The first cannabis cup in the United States was in 2010. Cannabis cups are still held in Amsterdam and the United States today.
